Three decades of fitting, repairing and restoring roofs across Kensington, Chelsea and the wider West London. Still independently owned. Still run by the people who go up the ladders.
Kensington Roofers was founded in the late 1980s by two brothers who'd served their apprenticeships under an old-school West London roofer working largely on the Cadogan and Grosvenor estates. They set up on their own, bought a van, and took on the work their mentor couldn't fit in. Three decades later, the firm has grown to a team of twelve tradesmen plus back-office support โ but it's still independently owned, still family-run, and still concentrated within a few miles of where it started.
We made a decision early on that we wouldn't expand beyond what we could personally oversee. That's meant turning down occasional big-ticket jobs further out โ an estate in Surrey, a housing development in Essex โ because we'd have had to sub the work out, and the quality would have suffered. Staying small and local has let us keep the same tradesmen doing the same kind of work on the same kinds of properties year after year. That's what builds real expertise.
We've worked on Grade I listed properties, on private members' clubs, on mansion blocks for resident management companies, on individual Victorian terraces, and on the occasional brand-new build. The common thread is that the work is done properly, by people who care about it, and backed by a guarantee we can actually honour because we're still here and still the same firm.
Every roofer on our team is on PAYE. No day labourers, no subcontracted gangs, no one on the job whose name we don't know.
Our quotes list materials by brand and code, scaffold by duration, labour by day rate. You can see exactly what you're paying for.
Before any job starts we walk the property with you, photograph existing fabric, flag anything we might find, and agree boundaries.
Tools packed down, skip managed, debris bagged, exposed roof covered before everyone leaves. Every day, not just the last day.
Guarantee certificate, manufacturer warranties, photo record of the completed work and waste transfer notes handed over at sign-off.
We're registered with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and carry current CHAS and SafeContractor approvals. Every operative on the team holds a valid CSCS card at the appropriate level. Lead workers are trained under the Lead Contractors Association guidelines. Our heritage roofers hold National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Heritage Roofing accreditation.
Our insurance cover is ยฃ5 million public liability and ยฃ10 million employer's liability, both with insurers regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Certificate copies are available on request at the time of quoting โ we'd rather you saw them before you chose a contractor than afterwards.
We're an Environment Agency-registered upper-tier waste carrier. That means the waste from every job we do is tracked and disposed of through licensed transfer stations, with a duty-of-care documentation trail. If HMRC or your local authority ever asks where the skip went, we can tell them โ with dates and reference numbers.
Kensington Roofers is a full member of the Federation of Master Builders, the Confederation of Roofing Contractors, and the Lead Contractors Association. We're also listed with TrustMark and Which? Trusted Traders. These memberships don't by themselves make a firm good โ but they do require a verifiable standard of insurance, finances and customer complaint handling, and they give clients somewhere to go if a dispute ever arose.
We're not going to list names and photographs on the website โ partly because our team changes occasionally and we'd rather not have stale information up, and partly because some of our heritage clients prefer a degree of discretion. But if you're curious about who'll be on your roof, here's the structure.
The firm is jointly owned and run by the two founding brothers, who still quote every job personally. Day-to-day project management falls to a senior foreman with twenty-five years on the tools and fifteen years managing. The roofing team itself is split into three crews: a pitched-roof crew specialising in slate and tile, a flat-roof crew running EPDM, GRP and felt, and a specialist chimney and leadwork crew. Each crew has a lead tradesman plus one or two apprentices or improvers.
Office support is handled by one full-time administrator who books in jobs, chases paperwork, issues guarantees and handles insurance liaison. Between us we can usually answer any question about any job within a day.
We take on one or two apprentices a year, through the CITB framework. The full apprenticeship runs four years and moves through basic roofing skills, lead craft, and eventually independent project work under supervision. It's how we've grown every senior tradesman we've got โ starting them young, training them properly, keeping them on.
Pop us a line or ring. No hard sell, no pressure โ just an honest conversation about what you need.
